Accreditation requirements
The national ABSA Accreditation Scheme has been developed to show proficiency for
individuals wishing to undertake Building Thermal Performance Assessments (also known
as House Energy Ratings) under the following assessment schemes:

The Building Code of Australia (BCA) - under the BCA, a Building Thermal Performance
Assessment be undertaken by a suitably qualified person. ABSA Accreditation is the
predominant qualification to satisfy this requirement.

NSW BASIX (Building Sustainability Index) Thermal Comfort Simulation Method Assessment
Service - applicable across NSW. The use of an ABSa Assessor to carry out this
work is a mandatory requirement of BASIX.
Accreditation requirements include:

Completing approved training in Thermal Performance Assessment. Assessors using 2nd
Generation tools are required to complete the 4 day training Qualification Short
Course in Building Thermal Performance Assessment (Residential)

Completing an Accreditation exam.

Compliance with a Code
of Practice [121 KB PDF].

Compliance with Accredited Assessment Procedures.

Holding adequate Professional Indemnity
Insurance.

Auditing of assessments.
-
Attendance at Continuing Professional Development update briefings.
