About us

The Association of Building Sustainability Assessors (ABSA) is a not-for-profit incorporated association representing building and design professionals who specialise in assessing the environmental impact of buildings.

ABSA accredits assessors to conduct assessments required by certain building and planing regulations, such as the Building Code of Australia and the NSW Building Sustainability Index (BASIX) Thermal Comfort Simulation Method.

Assessors must complete rigorous training and examination, and are subject to auditing. They're backed by Professional Indemnity Insurance and meet ABSA requirements for quality assurance and continuing professional development.

ABSA's services include:

  • training and support for sustainability assessors and ABSA members
  • advice and information for Councils, building professionals and consumers
  • seminars on sustainable development
  • accreditation and quality assurance schemes for assessors
